FARGO – This week in FM’s Finest, Fargo bands Les Dirty Frenchmen and Go Murphy bring contrasting sounds of punk and alt/indie rock to the stage.

Les Dirty Frenchmen

FM’s Finest is a weekly concert series sponsored by The Forum and music promoter Jade Presents. All performances take place at the House of Rock at the Hub in Fargo.
Les Dirty Frenchmen, formed more than 13 years ago, plays an old-school punk sound, according to singer Phil Hunt.
The five-person group grew up on bands like the Ramones and New York Dolls, but Hunt describes their own style as “a little more abrasive, raw and undisciplined.”
Because the band, which has released two albums, has played together for so long, their live shows have changed over the years, Hunt says.
“In our early years, our shows were very physically demanding, and it could take days to fully recover from them,” he says. “We’d be worn out, sore and even injured.”
Now, he describes their concerts as loud and funny, adding that “we are very much on our own wavelength.”
“I hope (our fans) have fun and enjoy the music,” he says. “We’re not trying to change the world.”
Go Murphy, meanwhile, hasn’t been playing together for nearly as long, although ties among the band members run deep, according to lead singer and guitarist Marcus Rondestvedt.
The three-person band was formed just two years ago in Fargo, though each of the band members has known each other for many years.
Each person brings their own separate musical styles and influences to the group, Rondestvedt says, which combine to create a style of alternative/indie rock that he describes as “lots of open space with each instrument complimenting the other.”

Go Murphy

At tonight’s concert and at Go Murphy’s other live shows, Rondestvedt says he hopes that fans simply “enjoyed themselves enough to tell a friend about us.”
Go Murphy released its first EP in April 2012, and is in the process of making a full-length album, Rondestvedt says.

  1. Listen to Go Murphy daily on my morning commute. My small slice of sticking it to the man while I’m in gridlock.
