The Suit

Everything In Slow Motion

FARGO – As FM’s Finest rolls along into its sixth week, tonight’s entry features a band with members who have known each other for years and another band that’s just getting going.
FM’s Finest is a weekly concert series sponsored by The Forum and music promoter Jade Presents. All performances take place at The House of Rock at The Hub in Fargo.
For The Suit, ties run deep.
The five-person rock band was established in 2006 but has only been playing with its current lineup for about a year, according to lead singer Paul Olson.
The Suit bandmates, however, have known each other for much longer. Olson says four of the five went to high school together.
Olson says the group creates music that tends toward “rock-infused metal.”
“We have a lot of four-on-the-floor beats, harmonies, and rock melodies and style in the verses and choruses,” he says, adding that the music also has a heavier side, which mixes in some screaming.
At their concerts, Olson hopes that The Suit successfully adds an element of interactivity.
“Crowd involvement is encouraged – we don’t want to throw a rock show, we want to promote an experience,” he says. “We’re all part of it together, so everybody has ownership.”
As for Everything In Slow Motion, tonight’s show will be a debut of sorts, as it’s the first time the group has played together.
According to lead singer and guitarist Shane Ochsner, the band is still fairly new, forming only a few months ago.
When one of Ochsner’s former bands split up a few years ago, Ochsner decided that he wanted to keep playing music regardless.
He made an EP track that was released in October 2012 through Facedown Records. Then he started looking for musicians to put the song to live music.
Once he got the five-person group together, Ochsner says the name just came to him.
“There is no crazy story behind the band name,” he says. “It just hit me one day.”
At tonight’s show, Ochsner says fans should expect to hear music that’s melodic, moving, atmospheric and heavy – “intense, but calming at the same time.”
“Not heavy in a ‘punch someone in the face and bang your head’ kind of way,” he says. “More in a ‘getting caught up in a serious head nod’ kind of way.”
